Blean Angling Shop League
Round 5, Chilham Match Lake, 27th April, 33 Pegs.

A really good turnout for the last match of the series despite the threat of constant downpours that luckily did not arrive. A few new faces joined us for this match; we were even graced with a pre match visit from Mr Longsdon himself. That might have something to do with the carp championships being held on another lake in the complex but at least he stopped and spoke.

With the draw completed there was a flurry of activity with the repeated query “which way to this peg” The result of today’s match would decide the minor placings in the league and also settle a lot of small side bets, most notable being Kerry Davies and Ron Hussey’s struggle for second place let alone the chasing pack of Dave Elliot, Micky Fell and Steve Foreman who all needed just a few points to change the result and the ever hopeful Paul Gilbert who needed a minor miracle.

Fishing was a tad slow as I can testify, but some good lumps put in an appearance to keep up the hopes of the major contenders. As James Young had built up an unassailable lead he took it easy, weighing in just 23.8kg up at the sharp end, Kerry dealt Ron a killer blow weighing in over 5 kg more than Ron to snatch 2nd in the league. To be fair the top 4 finishers on the day were not in the league which helped Paul Gilbert to 4th in the league.

Further down the table unlucky Derek Harvey failed to finish in the top 10 but only just if he had remembered to put that large carp in his keep-net rather than back in the water it may have given him that extra point for a top 10 finish but we will keep that secret to ourselves won’t we Derek. The match over and all the placings worked out, Bob Richards presented the medals to the worthy winners. As usual I would like to thank all those that turned up to make it a good (and dry) day. Special thanks to Mick Wright for all his help despite not enough said this time.

Just a little word from the match organiser, I would like to thank all anglers who support this league both summer and winter, it is a pleasure to run these matches without any arguments or ill feeling but if I do it wrong please let me know.
