Blean Angling Shop League Summer Series
28th October Final Round, Chilham Match Lake, 27 Pegs

The clocks went back but no one was caught out by turning up too early for this, the last match of the summer series. The rather bad weather forecast for the day kept some of the less intrepid anglers away from what can be a foreboding venue. But those that turned up were greeted with the usual smiling faces, whilst depriving them of a bit of hard earned cash.

The all important draw arrived and it was obvious that some of you did not get the peg you thought you needed. Our friends from Unity were all well placed to have a crack at winning, with Paul Gilbert taking up his usual place in the scrum for places with old favourite Micky Fell hanging around the top end hoping for a good result.

The wind did little to affect pegs 1 to 13, some anglers having to contend with a thick scum of leaves and other debris but fish did appear. Some very good specimens we landed, none better than Pat Todd’s two new personal bests and a new personal best match weight. It is nice to see someone enjoying the pleasure of angling. But once again it was the venue master Bamber that beat the conditions and landed 43.1kg of good carp to win on the day. Had it not been for a couple of missed matches he would have been in the shake-up.

At the weigh-in it was Paul Gilbert with 28.1kg taking second place and the 39 points which sealed the series for this popular Canterbury angler. Paul finished with 179 points close but not quite close enough with 175 points was series newcomer Brian Mallin. Possibly the closest fight was for third place which went to Ron Hussey despite Andy Goss’s late charge with 37 points to equal Ron’s total a hurried count back on weights showed Ron way in front with 142.25kg to Andy’s 117.10kg. Well done lads.

One time series leader Richard Eyre drew peg 1 and just could not find the carp to make a decent weight.
At this stage an apology may be due to Steve Foreman who turned up fished and may have weighed-in but in the confusion of trying to keep the sheets dry I did not record it. It does not affect the end result and he may not have weighed in, better to play it safe.

As usual I finish up thanking everyone for all their help but I do mean it, without your help we would not have a series. Many thanks to Mick (I want my points) Wright for checking the venue in the week before, putting up signs and doing the pegging, bless him. Thanks also to Ray and Mark for there continued support.
