Blean Angling Shop League
29TH July Chilham, Match Lake, 32 Peg

A wet morning greeted the early risers who met up at the Sportsman but it did not seem to dull the sprits of the faithful. The usual suspects were hatching their plots as to how they might tame the monsters that lurk below the surface of Chilham Match Lake.
Steve West had volunteered to peg today’s match (what’s new?) and assisted by Joe he managed to leave out some of the worst swims (the ones he didn’t want to draw).
The lads from Unity were on form and seized the chance to be at the front of the draw, not that it did them any good. It seems that some of the newer anglers did not understand when I gave them directions to the pegs; thinking over there meant just that, not a hike to the other side of the lake. Never mind Brian the exercise will do you good.
Once settled in our pegs Kerry thought he could do an impression of Ben Smiths singing, never will I complain about Ben’s singing again!
The fishing was slow and fish hard to keep hold of. If you managed to actually get one on your hook. The fish were well spread out with the upper half of the draw firing slightly better than the rest. There was only 1.5kg separating the top two at the weigh-in with Trev Lee just edging out Steve Foreman, Trevor maintaining his 100% record of fished 2 won 2. Other highlights of the weigh-in were Spencer’s 4 10lb ers, which actually weighed just over 10.5kg. Let’s hope his estimates are a little better in the shop. Mick Wright eventually caught a fish at about 2o’clock but that was about it for him. I watched Kev Fuller hook into a good fish only to lose it despite his efforts to drag something to the net. That about summed the day up, fish were scarce and hard to land but that’s what makes Chilham that little bit different from the usual lakes we fish.
Many thanks to all those that helped out on the day. See you all at Cottington at the end of August and don’t forget the CHARITY MATCH on 27th August you can book in at either shop. lets make it another good year, we have raised over £7000 in the last 3 years and on top of that it’s a good days fishing.
