Blean and Wantsum League of Silvers (BAWLS)
Match No. 4 Black Lake, Cottington 8th April 2007

Bob Francis - Overall Winner

Sunny conditions greeted the silver fish teams to the Cottington complex on Sunday and despite earlier pressure from Easter holiday makers in the week, Black Lake fished extremely well with five weights exceeding the 15lb mark.

Prior to the draw the competitors looked stunned when Ian Richie pulled up driving a 60 foot long juggernaut. Apparently, he had super glued his Power Legion together to avoid losing any more sections and had struggled fitting it into the back of his car the night before!

Mark 3 appeared pleased drawing end peg No.8 but no one told Stretch the basin section was circular and he wheeled his trolley round nine times before he Cottoned on! And yes, before you say it, he drives us all round the bend as well! Grumpy Old Men (or if you prefer – the three miserable ba****ds!) consisting of Tim Fagg, Dick Lawless and Ray Mears used their local knowledge to their advantage gaining two section wins and a second and have elevated themselves 6 points clear at the top of the league with one match to go.

If anyone would like to know how to make a fire from two pieces of wood or learn bush craft out in Blean Forest for two weeks, Gary Holden’s your man!

Conversely, previous leaders Wantsum Blue had a shocking days fishing by their standards gaining only 6 points on the day and leaving the series wide open.

The final match is on Black Lake again in one month’s time and this is sure to be eagerly anticipated and very keenly contested.
