BLEAN ANGLING and WANTSUM LEAGUE of SILVERS (BAWLS)
Summer Match No. 2, River Wantsum, 8th July 2007

Jeff Saunders Top Individual of the day!
As predicted in last months report, both Wantsum teams used local knowledge to their advantage on Sunday, finishing first and second in the latest round of the Blean Angling and Wantsum League of Silvers.

For once, the rain stayed away and with only the lightest of winds the anglers
enjoyed a comfortable match on this well maintained venue. Pole tactics with light set ups and squatt and pinkie hookbaits were the order of the day to try and tempt the fickle roach and skimmers to feed.

With only five minutes of the match remaining, Jonathon Brazier was facing a section last position, the wrath of team captain Jeff Saunders and a long hike back to the car park. Then his float dipped under and a quality 2lb 4oz perch found it’s way to the net. Relieve was etched all over Jonathon’s face!

Despite lengthy team meetings and several intensive tactical training sessions, Mark 3 anglers Mark Hokey Cokey and Stretch, to the utter despair of their captain, deliberately contravened match orders and fished the opposite to what they were told. Word has it, after only amassing a mere 5 points between them and walking back to the car park with their tails between their legs, they have now been placed on the transfer list! Not that anyone else would wish to take this rebellious pair on!

Mark Tailby was later seen trying to negotiate the transfer of Mick Partridge, although the 16 million pound fee placed on his head by the Smurf brothers agent could prove to be a stumbling block!

The UK’s top silver fish angler and consultant to Will Raison and Alan Scotthorne – “Mr Jeff Saunders” won the individual with an impressive 9lb 11oz. (He told me to big him up like that or I was going to get a smack in the gob for taking the p*ss out of that awful canary yellow tee shirt he wore the other month!). Whilst Lou Page, guesting for Bradley Baits (and also on an end peg!), finished in second place with 6lb 8oz and Graham Mitchell took third.
