BLEAN ANGLING and WANTSUM LEAGUE of SILVERS (BAWLS) Summer Match No. 3, River Stour, Plucks Gutter - 12th August 2007
Despite some impressive practice catches during the previous week, the River
Stour at Plucks Gutter, failed to produce the anticipated weights on Sunday. This
may have been a result of the split tide, with the river flowing out for the first hour
and a half before turning at 11.30am and then pushing back up forcibly for the
remainder of the match.
Section C, furthest downstream from the bridge, provided the five top weights on
the day with experienced river angler Lou Page taking the individual honours with
a hard earned 9lb 4oz. Former World Champion Bob Atkinson, who drew the end
peg in the section, also displayed his river prowess and was not too far behind
with a creditable 8lb 10oz.
Team honours on the day were shared equally between Bradley Baits and
Faversham’s Smurfetts team. The Smurfetts were ably assisted by super-sub
Steve ‘Ringer’ Foreman, standing in for Micky Partridge, who won the difficult B
Section.
The next silver fish match in the calendar should prove challenging with the
anglers moving on to the carp dominated Longshaw complex.
All the anglers would like to wish silver fish match regular John Whitehouse a
speedy recovery after his unfortunate accident whilst working on his house in
France. Get well soon John.
