Blean Angling Pleasure Match
Longshaw Match Lake, 14 Pegs, June 14th  2008

You Beauty!

A pleasant summer’s morning greeted us to the interesting little complex tucked away between Sturry and Herne Bay. As this match lake suffers less pressure than most others an exciting day was in prospect. Most of the anglers attending came from the Teams of four groups and had not had the opportunity to fish this water before, except for Micky Wright and Nigel Mills who practiced on the Friday and had some idea how it would fish.

The tea dished up by Dennis helped us to wait for the stragglers to arrive. Once they all turned up it was into the all important draw, this was when fate took a hand, Micky Wright and Nigel drew the pegs they had practiced on but as we all know this is no guarantee of a good days fishing.

As the day progressed and most pegs produced, fish disaster struck and Nigel lost his pole. Dennis launched the boat to retrieve it but the pole was waterlogged and suffered near terminal damage. Nigel did find enough bits to carry on fishing but was unable to maintain a challenge at the whistle. There was a strange smile on Mick Wright’s face which gave away the fact that he thought he’d had a good day.

At the scales Mick weighed in an impressive 34kg nearly 10kg ahead of Andy Goss with 24.4kg. Andy was only a few pegs away from Mick on the front of the lake, in third was Ian Ritchie with 17.2kg who was the only angler on the back of the lake to present a decent weight, just edging out  Dave Silman who had 16.7kg.

Another good performance from Steve Foreman was marred by snags in his swim which reduced him to 12kg from the top of the lake. Overall it was a good match, many thanks to Dennis and Edd for all there assistance and to Buster for the post match entertainment (Buster the Dog that is).
